We have arrived safely back in Perth. We had a magical time in Nepal and came home with lots of beautiful memories.

Nepal have been on our must visit place list for a while, even before our son Berlin was born. The unfortunate earthquake in 2015 further delayed the trip, but now that our toddler is a more seasoned traveller, we felt that we were finally ready to go.

For the first time as a travelling family, we visited a country that we know relatively little about. Nepal gets a lot of tourists and trekkers but not exactly an obvious choice for family travel destination.

Visiting a place you know little about can be scary. But for us it is exciting! The chance to learn new cultures, meet new people and be in a beautiful foreign land outweigh all the worry. Even after years of travel, we still get the buzz from planning to visit somewhere new.

As you can imagine we did A LOT of research before this trip. We wanted to be sure that our son will be comfortable during the trip, that we are not putting him through unnecessary discomfort and to make sure that Nepal is even doable. We were particularly concerned if he can eat the food during the holiday. As it turn out, Nepal is much easier for family travel than we expected.

Nowadays planning for a trip is much simpler. There are tons of resources online, guidebook, other people who have visited and tips from many awesome bloggers. For this trip, we once again particularly pay close attention to Lonely Planet guidebook (for sights), Tripadvisor (for general info) and Booking.com (for accommodation)

You never know what a place is really like until you arrive there, but good preparation will help your family avoid any unhappy surprises. Before you know it, you will think – “Why was I so worried?”
