As family travellers we have the gift to help shape the very nature of our future global community. Visiting charity organisation while on family travel is a great way to explore the world in a meaningful way. The times we spent visiting there organisations are truly priceless

During our travels we have been lucky enough to have visited charity organisations in Bali, Chiang Mai, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Our son enjoyed visiting these wonderful organisations, meeting a lot of new friendly people along the way. We hope to make it a regular part of our travels, so hopefully helping others become a natural part of him when he grows up.

Process of visiting a charity organisation while travelling is quite simple:

– Do your research before your family holiday

– Contact them via email to organise a good time to visit

– Fill in any guest forms and bring your identification if required

– Plan to visit other sites or do activities close to the charity place during that day

Below are the charities we have visited so far during our family travels to date:

Jodie O’Shea orphanage, Bali

This orphanage was built in loving memory of Jodie O Shea who tragically died as a result of the Bali bombing in 2002. It was formed by a compassionate group of people who combined their resources to improve the lives of children in Bali. 100% funded by generous friends and visitors, donations of food, toiletries and basic essentials are always welcome.

During our visit, we met some of the kids as they were coming home from school, visited the orphanage facilities and went food shopping at the local supermarket. Their current essentials need list is usually listed on their website.

The Healing Family Foundation, Chiang Mai

In our first overseas travel, we visited The Healing Family Foundation in Chiang Mai. Its working principle is simple and straightforward: it aims to provide a space for people with disabilities (mainly intellectual) to socialize and enjoy themselves. If there’s anyone visiting Chiang Mai in the future, and interested in helping out, read up more about this amazing organization here.

They raise funds by mainly selling handicrafts.

SOS Children’s Villages Kathmandu – Jorpati, Nepal

SOS Children’s Village Jorpati was built 30 years ago for the orphaned and abandoned handicapped children. The organisation assists them to lead a dignified life and train them for rehabilitation.

During our visit we were lucky to have met Mr Rabin Nepali who has dedicated 29 years of his life to this wonderful organisation

SOS Children’s Villages Galle, Sri Lanka

Since 1981 SOS Children’s Villages has been providing a loving home to children across Sri Lanka.

In SOS Galle, there are 12 family houses. Other infrastructures includes a Kindergarten, a Social Centre and Youth Facility for boys and girls and retired Mothers’ homes.

The SOS mother builds a close relationship with every child entrusted to her, and provides the security, love and stability that each child needs. As a child care professional, she lives together with the children, guides their development, and runs her household independently.
